Doctors and Nurses

Personal Social and Emotional Development

Talk with the children about how doctors, nurses and paramedics help to keep people safe and healthy. Demonstrate how to use some of the equipment in a first aid kit such as bandages, slings, thermometer and stethoscope. Support and encourage children in their play with friends using the equipment and acting in role.

Understanding the World

Set up the Role-play area so children can role play being doctors and nurses. Help them to set up their own hospital, complete with a waiting room and appointment system. Children can take turns to be the doctors, nurses and patients and act out the roles. Uniforms, stethoscope and other medical equipment.

Physical Development

Looking at the heart, Get the children to do vigorous exercise and then compare and discus how their bodies feel different – from being hotter, to breathing heavier and faster heartbeats.
