Personal Social and Emotional

Circle time activity – Discuss different roles and occupations. Ask the children to tell you about any adults in their life and if they have an occupation. Show more confidence in new social situations.

Communication and Language

 Play a listening game where children listen to a collection of street sounds, including car and lorry horns, pedestrian crossing beeps and roadwork noises. When children hear an emergency vehicle siren, they need to stand up, ready for action!    Talk with the children about the importance of listening to and following instructions when they hear a fire alarm. Practise what the children should do when the alarm sounds. Give clear instructions for them to follow.       Listen and respond to a simple instruction.                                                                                         

Physical Development

talk about going to visit the dentist. Do the children know how to look after their teeth? Provide toothbrushes and a large-scale set of teeth for the children to practise cleaning.    Using wet sand and either wooden blocks or foam bricks, model to the children how a builder would mix cement to build a wall. Can the children try building their own wall using the techniques you showed them?      Use one-handed tools and equipment.                                                                                            

Literacy

Read people who help us themed books to the children. Encourage them to join in with repeated refrains.    Can the children hear the initial sounds and feed them to the nurse if they begin with a n?

Enjoys sharing books with adults.                                                                                                      

Mathematics

Talk to the children about numbers that are of importance to them. Can they tell you about the number on their front door? Do they know the number to ring in an emergency? Practise phoning 999 on a toy phone and saying their house number.    Place five emergency vehicles on a car mat. Ask the children to tell you how many they can see. Place them in different group size. Talk about the groups you can see.    Say one number name for each item in order: 1,2,3,4,5.                                                                 

Understanding the World

Explore the different uniforms for different job roles.  Using an ink pad and paper, look at fingerprints using a magnifying glass.    Show interest in different occupations.             

Expressive Art and Design

Emergency service vehicles travel quickly when they have their sirens on. Ask the children to travel slowly around a space and when they hear the siren (possibly a tambourine), they need to travel quickly and safely.    Make handprint Firefighters.    Make lanyards and work badges for the children to use during role play. Encourage them to take turns.       Explore paint using fingers
