Personal Social and Emotional

Talk about what foods we like and dislike and how to keep a healthy diet. Use the home corner to “create” our meals and explore with our friends what we like to eat and prepare cooperatively

Communication and Language

Discuss all types of foods and talk about which ones are good or bad for us. Introduce new language such as “spicy, crunchy, soft, sharp, bitter”.

Physical Development

Handling fruits to create a fruit kebab or holding a knife to spread cheese or jam on a sandwich. Discuss a healthy diet and how to keep healthy with a varied diet, discuss why we need 5 a day.

Literacy

Reading books, especially Handra’s Surprise to better understand the importance of healthy eating. See if we can hear and recognise the initial sounds of words such as Banana.

Mathematics

Count how many fruits and vegetables you must eat daily. Identify shapes and relate them to a food.

Understanding the World

Discuss different types of food eaten in different parts of the world, such as curry, sushi, pasta, burgers etc.

Expressive Art and Design

Make fruit kebabs, look at pattern, shape, colour and draw what we have created. Make a sandwich using favourite fillings, cut into shapes with cutters. Make a pasta collage. Paint a picture of your favourite food.
