Physical Development

Using the different fastening bags encourage the children to explore the materials and practice zipping and unzipping, pressing of poppers, fastening and un fastening buttons and Velcro as well as practising to thread laces through the eyelets to help children to learn to independently dress themselves as well as promoting fine motor skills

Communication and Language

Discuss what clothes we wear for the different seasons and why. IE Sunhat to help protect us from getting burnt by the sun, Gloves in the winter to keep our hands warm etc

Literacy

Play the ‘What am I wearing game’ this is played by standing in front of the children and ask them to tell you what you are wearing. Then cover yourself in a blanket and ask the children to attempt to recall what you are wearing. After the children can take turns doing this too.

Mathematics

Matching pair game. Match the sock to its correct partner by either the colour or print activity.

Understanding the World

Look at the different types of clothing and uniforms worn by different people for their job roles, i.e., Police uniform, football player, swimmer etc Discuss why they wear them, i.e., Helmet to protect their head from injuries, Hi-Viz yellow jacket to ensure someone is easily seen etc. Encourage role play by providing suitable clothing/accessories for the children to try on enabling them to gain understanding of different occupations.

Expressive Art and Design

Using cardboard doll templates, allow children to choose clothing for their template to wear and glue them on. Discus each item and there uses.
