Personal Social and Emotional

Support the children in preparing for the preschools upcoming Christmas show. Help them to practise the songs. Talk to them about how it is important for everyone to work together as a team and explain how we all have an important role to play to ensure we put on an amazing show for our families.

Understanding the World

Focus song: I’m a little snowman

Talk to the children about the season of Winter. How does winter affect the natural world? What physical changes can they see outside? How does it feel? What do they need to wear to keep warm?

Using ice cubes, place them on a suitable surface indoors and watch what happens to them. Ask the children to make predictions prior. Arctic animals could also be added.

Literacy

Focus song: When Santa got stuck up the chimney

Help children to write Christmas letters to Santa. Encourage them to put in envelopes and post in the post box.

Mathematics

Focus song: 5 Mince Pies

Counting practise up to Five using bricks and other objects. Cut and Stick 5 mince pies activity.

Expressive Art and Design

Focus song: Rudolph the red nose reindeer

Make a red nose like Rudolph’s using a painted egg carton and elastic. Paper plate Rudolph’s. Make Rudolph Headbands. Use percussion instruments to replicate Santa’s flying sleigh, ie,  bells

Communication and Language

Focus song: Christmas pudding

Make Christmas pudding cakes. Encourage children to listen and follow instructions whilst following the recipe and instructions.

Physical Development

Focus song: Jingle Bells

Sing whilst shaking our bells high, low, hard, soft, how does are body movement change the sound?Practice gross motor skills with large movements to make the bells ring!
