Personal Social and Emotional

Circle time- feeling safe. Who keeps us safe? Show a picture of a lollipop person. What is their job? Discuss, role play with toy cars, play people and car mat with crossing.

Communication Language and Literacy

Share the book “Learn about road safety with Susie and Sam”. Make stop and go signs for outside road area.

Physical Development

Use large bikes outside in road area with a stop and go game. Wear high visibility jackets. Practice stopping and keeping each other safe.

Mathematics

Patterns- Traffic light colour sequencing. Paint black and white stripes for zebra crossing and discuss repeating pattern. Also, look for shapes in the environment around a crossing area.

Understanding the World

In small groups take a trip outside school to see and experience the school crossing. Practice safe walking on the pavement and listening carefully. Discuss using our eyes and ears to keep safe.

Expressive Art and Design

Make traffic light biscuits. Make school lollipop signs. Role play school crossing and dress up as school crossing person, using a sign, high visibility clothes and hat.
